What is Mother Bear Naturals!

Mother Bear Naturals started out in 2000 when commercial soaps and perfumes started giving our family severe allergic reactions. Our oldest daughter has psoriasis, and it had reached the point where mainstream remedies were not working or had side effects we were not willing to risk. Anytime we used anything in our house with artificial scents or perfumes, including cleaning products and laundry detergent, our youngest daughter would start coughing and eventually come down with bronchitis, until we forbid anything scented from entering the house.

But we still loved scents and hated living in an unscented world. That began our exploration in to Essential Oils. Essential Oils are plant oils. If you take a piece of fresh herbs and rub some on your hand, the liquid you see is mostly water. Once that water evaporates the scent you can still smell is the natural oil found in that plant. Essentials oils are a concentrated version of those oils that is taken from the plant, most often, by steam distillation.

Once we discovered essential oils, which we used for aromatherapy to help with everything from sinus problems to depression, we found soap making. At first is just sounded like plain fun. It was not until our handmade, all natural soaps started having a positive effect on our daughter’s psoriasis, that we took it seriously. Also, soaps also made great gifts.

Our line started out with 2 basic soaps bases. One that was a blend of olive, coconut and palm oils, and one that was 100% olive oil. Over the course of the next few years, our triple oil soap was improved upon greatly in an attempt to make the “perfect” bar or soap -- adding oils to increase and stabilize the lather, to increase the moisturizing effects, and to increase the life of the bar of soap. Our 100% Olive Oil soap is made with a combination of essential oils to help with skin problems. We also have several other recipes for other specific conditions.

After a while, the idea that simple, whole ingredients make better products began to filter into every aspect of our lives. What you see on these web pages is our offering to share with you what we've created for our family.

Our philosophy is sticking to natural ingredients creates better products. We feel that every need we have, nature has surely provided for us. It's our job to discover in nature how to fulfill our needs. It 's better for our skin; it's better for our bodies; it's better for our environment and it's better for our world.
